Pediatric emergency medicine has experienced sustained growth over the last few decades, both in terms of care complexity and academic development. In this context, the staging of the First World Congress of Pediatric Emergencies was an event of special significance for the international consolidation of the discipline, by bringing together, for the first time in the same scientific venue, leading figures, medical societies, and research networks from all continents.

The meeting was organized by the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics and the São Paulo Society of Pediatrics, with the scientific backing of the Latin American Society of Pediatric Emergencies (SLEPE) and the Spanish Society of Pediatric Emergencies (SEUP), in addition to the support of multiple international organizations linked to emergency care for children. The active participation of SLEPE was especially relevant, as it reaffirmed the growing prominence of Latin America in the academic and scientific development of global pediatric emergency medicine.

One of the main architects of the congress was Dr. Hany Simon Jr., the president of the event and a recognized figure in the field of pediatric emergencies. His leadership, organizational capacity, and strategic vision were decisive in making an unprecedented event a reality, one capable of integrating scientific societies, researchers, and professionals from different regions of the world. Under his leadership, the congress managed to consolidate a space for high-level scientific exchange and lay the foundations for future international collaborations.

The call gathered nearly 3,000 attendees from more than 30 countries, including specialists, researchers, residents, and medical students. The significant participation of physicians in training demonstrated the growing interest this specialty sparks in new generations and reflects the progressive expansion of the field of pediatric emergencies internationally.

The scientific program integrated both classic problems and emerging challenges. Conferences and debates were held on topics such as sepsis, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, respiratory failure, trauma, sedoanalgesia, and ventilatory support, along with contemporary topics like digital risks in childhood, medical emergencies on commercial flights, prudence-based medicine, and new perspectives on diversity and gender in healthcare.

Furthermore, the congress distinguished itself by incorporating innovative formats for academic discussion that favored direct interaction between experts and the audience, promoting a dynamic and participatory approach aimed at solving real clinical problems.

The backing of numerous international scientific societies and the main collaborative research networks in pediatric emergencies consolidated the event as a true articulating node for global research in the specialty. In this sense, the institutional presence of SLEPE and SEUP acquired special importance by strengthening integration within the international scientific agenda.

From a historical perspective, this first world congress represents a turning point in the evolution of pediatric emergency medicine. Beyond the scientific advances presented, the meeting allowed for the consolidation of an international community with its own identity, shared objectives, and a growing capacity for collaborative academic production.

The main legacy of the congress will probably reside in the construction of professional and scientific networks aimed at promoting pediatric emergency medicine that is increasingly integrated, evidence-based, and focused on improving the care of children and adolescents in critical situations worldwide.

As of the end of this writing, the second pediatric emergencies congress has been confirmed to take place in 2028, in Ghent, Belgium. This is just the beginning...
